So often when I sit down to write a post, I just find myself staring at the blank page, having no clue as to what keys my fingers will hit on the keyboard. I wonder if the inspiration that comes mere moments after looking at the screen will be something of any value, whether anyone will want to read it, whether anyone who reads it agrees with it or disagrees with it, or whether I will think the post to be any good. The feeling that comes with finishing a post is usually one of “this is the equivalent of a piece of garbage.”
It is amazing that anyone would want to read the random thoughts of just another guy in a coastal town south of San Francisco, let alone the number who do.
Blogging…the virtual frontier.
These are the thoughts of a Christian man…
His ongoing mission…
To explore strange theological thoughts…
To seek out new concepts and doctrines…
To boldly blog, where no man has blogged before…
I can go a little batty this time of night as I sit before the computer monitor, staring into the bright whiteness of the screen, as evidenced above.
So it is a pleasant surprise when a post is generated and readers comment. And in the case of one post, from last November 17, a reader came by asking for the right to republish it as part of an electronic newsletter aimed at assisting churches with managing volunteers - and offered a very modest sum for that right.
I was humbled, because the post in question was not one of my favorite to write, but was necessary for me to work through the feelings I was experiencing in my faith journey at that time. Even more odd was the fact that I had, unknowingly, predicted that God was going to take me out of my comfort zone just a couple of weeks prior in this post from November 3. Of particular note, was a comment I had written on that post (in response to another commenter):
…it is not easy being taken out of our comfort zone. A little more than a year ago God did that when He had me teach HS Sunday school - didn’t think I’d ever do that, but here I am a year later still doing it.
Which means He’s about to take me out of my comfort zone yet again.
Fourteen days later I would write a post entitled Out of the Comfort Zone. And that post got me published for the first time.
You can see the end result here…part of Church Volunteer Central’s monthly newsletter.
Have a great Friday!
